Are you noticing how weird time feels these days? It’s like one day can be very long and then “poof!” another week has passed. The conversations I am having now often lead to when are we opening again? I don’t know.
I think that is an incredibly difficult part of this pandemic - how often we have to say “I don’t know.” So, I am doing my best to focus on what I do know. Our new series, Follow, is about following Jesus in this challenging time. This is the most significant thing we can do with our lives. Here are some ways The Downtown Church is following Jesus in this season.
Our Mission Team has chosen to send most of our mission budget now to the Council of Churches, Ozarks Food Harvest, and the Discovery Center and we're trusting in the generosity of our church to meet these needs. I know this is right. We are called to care for and feed our neighbors. Our Prayer Team is diligently taking your requests before the Lord God each week. I know God will honor our prayers. Your staff and many volunteers are finding new ways to connect, extending our ministry for Christ beyond the limitations of social distancing. I know the Holy Spirit will take what we offer far beyond our imagination.
I know the day will come when we can meet again, I just don’t know when. In the meantime, I am learning the questions we will need to answer, the precautions we will need to take, and the patience we must have with the experts who know more than us.
And this I know to be true. I would stake my life on it - Romans 8:38 from The Message - I’m absolutely convinced that nothing - nothing living or dead, angelic or demonic, today or tomorrow, high or low, thinkable or unthinkable - absolutely nothing can get between us and God’s love because of the way that Jesus our Master has embraced us.
Please join us online Sunday and keep your eyes on our social media throughout the week.
