I often hear myself referring to how quickly time is passing. Maybe it was the birth of our fifth grandchild this year, the 40th birthday of our eldest, or the fact that turning 60 was a few years in the rearview mirror. It is all that and more, and when I walked into Hobby Lobby yesterday, surrounded by Christmas decorations, I was reminded again of the swift passage of days, seasons, and years. Time is a precious and sacred thing.
On Sunday, I was reminded again of how far and fast The Downtown Church has come in the past few years. From 30 in worship to 200, from one Sunday School class to multiple groups, and from one kid to brand new nursery and toddler rooms to house many. So we celebrated with worship, bluegrass music, and a fried chicken potluck!
I just want to pause today and say, “Thank You!” Thank you for the hours we spent in worship together. Thank you for the way you have become the choir each Sunday to sing together of our hope and love in Jesus. Thank you for the multiple ways you are stepping up and filling the new roles created by a growing church - the cleaning and repairing, hosting and leading, gardening and building, serving and giving. You are responding to the Holy Spirit. Thank you!
And I want to say, “Get ready!” When the Holy Spirit moves, new things happen. Transformation and change are a certainty. I look back with gratitude and I look forward with great joy and anticipation as we continue this journey together. I am excited to spend the precious gift of time with you.
See you Sunday,
