Greetings from The Downtown Church! This is a bi-weekly email with information about events, updates, and other fun things from the leadership of the church.

I’m getting older. Obviously. We all are. Last night Ben and I went to our second grandson’s sixth-grade band concert. (That is a story for another time.) I didn’t feel older because I knew all the words to the 1861 song Aura Lee—and no, I wasn’t there when it was written. It wasn't because our oldest grandchild sitting with us is now taller than me. It was because negotiating the bleachers in a packed gym required me to remember to walk carefully, hold on to the railing, and take my time. I remember it being just the other day when I wasn’t challenged by how high I was willing to climb for a good seat. But, I am getting older and things have changed.

The Downtown Church is multigenerational. It is one of my favorite things about our church. I celebrate the wonder of babies being born into this body of Christ. I love watching as children and youth are entrusted to us to teach about loving God and neighbor. And, at the other end of life are those who are even older than me. It will always be important to continue growing relationships within this church family with people of all ages regardless of their ability to come to the physical church. Yes, online worship is available, but we also need opportunities to share conversations and stories, to listen and learn from each other, face to face.

With that in mind, we are starting Parish Visits this summer. Diane Tucker will be giving leadership to this ministry that will put together people who find themselves more limited in their ability to be out and about with others who have the gift of visitation. Visiting is a gift that blesses the giver and the recipient. If you would like to participate by becoming a Parish Visitor, or know of someone who might enjoy a monthly visit, please contact me. I promise it will make an impact on others and on you too.

Here’s to getting older together!

See you Sunday,
Lori

As the school year is coming to a close, one of our wonderful nursery workers, Aubrey, is graduating. We are very excited for her, but that means we are in need of another excellent staff member for our nursery. If you, or someone you know, are perfect for this job, let our kids coordinator, Carla Pate, know.

It was great to have some fun in May, and June is going to be just as much fun. Our next First Friday Art Walk Party is Friday, June 3, from 6-8pm. We'll have popcorn, lemonade, some activities for kids, and Caduceus–The Doctor's Band–will be playing some lovely Jazz music. We hope to see you out for some fun!

Pastor Lori mentioned it above, but we are starting to create a team of volunteers to visit and check-in on our homebound members. We are happy to offer online worship, but there's something different about face-to-face connections. Just send us an email back if you have the time and heart to be a part of this team.
