Greetings from The Downtown Church! This is a bi-weekly email with information about events, updates, and other fun things from the leadership of the church.

From the very beginning of The Downtown Church, back in 2015, we knew we wanted this place to be active on more than just Sundays. We knew we wanted it to be more than just worship. We wanted it to be a community hub. A resource for other nonprofits, recovery groups, and the arts. A place where Christ and the community truly intersect.

Early on, we had a great relationship with Springfield Little Theatre, and they held classes here 3-4 days a week for a couple years as their education department was growing. They grew and grew and now have their own building. But over the years, more and more community groups have used our spaces. We've purposefully renovated spaces to accommodate them because we believe in our vision statement.

And over the next few months, you will see even more new faces in the building. Tomorrow, about 250 parents and kids will be in our sanctuary as the Discovery School holds their fine arts performance here. Soon, we will host a garage sale for Watching Over Whiskers, rehearsals for an upcoming play from the Springfield Shakespeare Co., and a therapy group for local Parkinson's patients.

There are too many churches in the world that are empty most days of the week. This can be a busy building on any given day. And I hope it just gets busier. When we know our neighbors, we build trust, support, and reciprocity. Let's continue to look for ways to be bridge builders in our community and with each other.

See you Sunday,
Brian
Brent Bossi will begin a new study on the Gospel of John. It will be Sunday nights at 5:30pm beginning on THIS SUNDAY, May 18. This book of the Bible is also known as the Book of Signs because of Jesus' miracles in the first half of the book. It stands out from the accounts in Matthew, Mark, and Luke because of it's structure, tone, themes, and it's famed prologue. Come explore how this Gospel account has so much to offer us today. Childcare will be available!
Our June First Friday Art Walk Party will be on Friday, June 6, from 6-8pm. We are excited to welcome the swingin' big band sounds of the Springfield Community Jazz Ensemble. They will play some of the most timeless jazz tunes from the Big Band Era, as well as other classics. Join us for the FREE fun! We'll have popcorn, lemonade, fun crafts for kids, and more!

There is a small, yet passionate group who are looking to start a vocal group. Pastor Brian wants to be clear that THIS IS NOT A CHOIR. This small ensemble will meet somewhat regularly and sing in worship 4-6 times a year. If you would like to sing in a group, let us know or mark your interest in the bulletin on Sundays.
