Greetings from The Downtown Church! This is a bi-weekly email with information about events, updates, and other fun things from the leadership of the church.

Sometimes progress is a giant mess. That is the way I am feeling about the construction work underway on Walnut and Jefferson, and throughout other areas of downtown Springfield. Ultimately, new water and gas lines and improved roadways and sidewalks will be the outcome, but for now the mess is negatively impacting our neighborhood. The places that call downtown their home are losing business and there is great concern about their ability to survive.

Because of the road construction mess, we are not able to have our First Friday Art Walk party on June 2, which is an important way we engage with the people of Springfield. Our parking lot on the east slide is thankfully still reachable and I have been assured will remain so. But the street is a big mess. Like really big.

The Downtown Church Board met Tuesday night and in keeping our desire to be an integral part of downtown Springfield made the generous decision to waive the rent for the summer for Queen City Collectors, our tenants across the street. And your Board asks that you make a strong effort during this time to shop and dine downtown. There are wonderful restaurants and stores that need your business.

June 2 would be another opportunity for you to redirect your time from serving or attending our First Friday Art Walk Party into supporting our neighborhood and their efforts to contribute to the economic development of our community. Yes, it's a mess, but you can still make a positive difference in the lives of others. And isn’t that the way we are to live?

See you Sunday,
Lori

Mark your calendars for a night of fun! The Downtown Kids are planning a Family Fun Night on June 14th, from 5:30-7:30pm. We'll gather at Rutledge-Wilson Farm Park for hayrides, animals, food, and fun! Bring your friends and neighbors and join us for a night of summer fun! Let us know if you can make it and RSVP and share the Facebook Event.
Due to this crazy construction downtown, and the big mess out front and down Walnut, we are going to cancel our June 2 First Friday Art Walk Party. Take that Friday to help out some of the other struggling businesses in our neighborhood that night...we know they could use some loving.

Brent Bossi will be leading a Bible study on Sunday nights in June, starting at 6:30pm. They'll be working through the book of Philippians. Bring a Bible and let the Spirit guide the conversation. It's going to be filled with JOY!
