Greetings from The Downtown Church! This is a bi-weekly email with information about events, updates, and other fun things from the leadership of the church.

Holy Week started last Sunday with shouts of Hosanna! and a palm parade led by our kids. We explored our prayers of celebration and praise, and we practiced our own celebrations by welcoming new members. Last night, we had our final Vespers service of Lent. We ate soup and bread together and talked about the last meal Jesus shared with his disciples.

This week of ups and downs continues tomorrow night at our Good Friday Tenebrae service at 7pm. We will remember Jesus's mock-trial, suffering, and eventual death, then leave in silence. The sanctuary will go quiet and it will stay that way until Sunday morning, when we celebrate the joy of resurrection.

This Sunday, this week, the holiest in our Christian calendar, is meant to be experienced. We are meant to remember. Then we take what we've learned and walk into the world as changed people on new journeys. I hope you will experience it with us. It's not too late to RSVP for breakfast either!

  • Good Friday – 7pm
  • Easter Worship – 8am

See you soon,
Brian

We have a new Sunday Morning opportunity starting on April 19 at 9am. This 5-week class will be led by Seth & Beth Lancaster, and the goal is to provide a safe space to discuss questions, doubts, church trauma & baggage, and a whole host of other topics. Deconstruction has been a big word in churches for the past several years, but we don't want people to tear faith down and leave it in ruins. We want you to find a healthy place where you can build it back up. RSVP for this group right here or sign up on Sundays.
We want to help stock the shelves at the Antioch UMC food pantry. Bring canned goods, nonperishables, and other staples that will help fill baskets and bags of people in our community. Starting April 12, we will have a box in the gathering area to collect the donations. Our friends at Antioch have told us about the increased demand they've seen, which started back in the fall. Thanks for your generosity!
For the past several years, we've taken a special Easter offering to support our ongoing work at McGregor Elementary. We have volunteers that run a Good Dads, Strong Schools chapter there once a month. Another group leads McGregor Moms. We have reading and math buddies that tutor kids. We support the staff with treats and gifts. We’ve purchased shoes, coats, and food for students. Help us continue this vital support and give as you can on Easter morning. You can also give online through our website—just select 2026 Easter Offering.
