School is back session! Some of you are celebrating the fact that kids are back in class and out of the house, and some of you pine for those lazy summer days by the pool. But like it or loathe it, our weekly routines are back. There is school, sports teams, work, dinners, theater...so many things to do, so little time!
Do you feel like that? I do too.
But this week, back in a routine, I took a little of my own advice from Sunday's sermon. I still caught the morning NPR headlines with breakfast, I admit, but before I did that, I listened to a guided meditation and prayer time while I made the kids' lunches.
I use an app called Lectio 365, which I highly recommend. It's free and helps set the tone for my day. I get a short passage of scripture to chew on, some words to consider, and guided prayers. And each morning the closing prayer has become a reminder of how to go about my day:
Father, help me to live this day to the full, being true to You, in every way. Jesus, help me to give myself away to others, being kind to everyone I meet. Spirit, help me to love the lost, proclaiming Christ in all I do and say. Amen.
I pray you find a way to add something new to your routine this school year. Something that has the power to help you slow down and live with eyes wide open.
See you Sunday, Brian |

You don't have to be a parent of a confirmand. Get a refresher, or maybe a primer, for the foundational beliefs, sacraments, and church history of the United Methodist denomination. Our next First Friday Art Walk Party is on September 5, from 6-8pm. We welcome the Springfield Community Jazz Ensemble to our front yard for some killer tunes. We'll have lemonade, popsicles, and be popping fresh popcorn. And it's all FREE! We are even hoping to partner with some organizations that help furry friends, so be on the lookout for more details. Maybe we will call it our First Fur-st Friday Art Walk Party! |
