Greetings from The Downtown Church! This is a bi-weekly email with information about events, updates, and other fun things from the leadership of the church.

We started a new series last week based on our Core Values: Community, Acceptance, Spiritual Growth, Creativity, and Reflection. Each Sunday, we'll dive into why these values are important and how they shape the decisions we make as we seek to follow Jesus more closely each year.

One of those values—Spiritual Growth—seems like a no brainer for a church, right? Of course spiritual growth is important in every church (I hope). But how does that look, specifically, to us, The Downtown Church? Great question! We are busy figuring out what that looks like in an intergenerational church filled with people from a diverse set of faith backgrounds. We weren't all raised Methodists and we may not all believe the exact same things we once did. And that's okay!

So in that vein, we are starting two Confirmation classes on Sunday, September 14. One class will be specifically designed for our youth who have not gone through confirmation yet. The other is designed for adults. And not just the parents of the youth confirmands. It's for anyone who is curious. For those who never went through Confirmation, those who would like a refresher, or those want to discover the foundational beliefs in the Methodist tradition.

We have some great leaders for each group. Wade Shelton, our Board Chair, and I will lead the youth class while Lori Lampert and Heather Blair will be with the adults. I hope to see you or your kid(s) in one of these groups as we continue to learn about God, trust the Spirit, and love Jesus.

See you Sunday,
Brian
We'll have two Confirmation classes this year. One for any youth, 6th grade and up, who haven't gone through a Confirmation class yet, and one for adults. Any adult. You don't have to be a parent of a confirmand. Get a refresher, or maybe a primer, for the foundational beliefs, sacraments, and church history of the United Methodist denomination. Sign up with this quick online form.
Our annual back-to-school family bowling day is on Sunday, August 17, from 2-4pm at Andy B's. Come have some fun with your friends from church and maybe acquire the bragging rights for the high score in bowling (or low score, if you're one of those people). The cost is $10 at the door for your bowling shoes and an arcade card to play a few games. Just email us back and let us know you can make it or show up...either way...it's gonnna be fun!
It's almost time for our fall season of Dinners Together. We need several more hosts willing to open their home to share a meal with others from The Downtown Church. You can let us know right here if you would like to host. If you have no clue what this is, Dinners Together is a chance to share a meal and some good conversation with the people you see on Sunday mornings. No agenda. No Bible study. Just a meal and an evening getting to know new people.
