Greetings from The Downtown Church! This is a bi-weekly email with information about events, updates, and other fun things from the leadership of the church.

On Wednesday, we all embarked on a journey. Some of us gathered to mark the occasion in the sanctuary with prayer, songs, and ashes on our hands or heads. Whether you observed Ash Wednesday or not, we are all still moving forward, together, to Easter morning.

For the next 40 days or so, we are in the liturgical season of Lent. It is marked by repentance, fasting, preparation, and, for us, prayer. That's what we're going to dig deeper into on Sundays. The words we say and the ways we pray that draw us closer to God.

Maybe you think you know what prayer is or how to say prayers. Maybe you wish you prayed more or had better words to say to God to express your feelings and hopes. Maybe you have no clue what is really happening when you pray. Perhaps all of those can be true!

And over the next several Sundays, perhaps you will see just how vital and central prayer can be to our understanding of God.

See you Sunday,
Brian

The big day is this Sunday! We could still use a few more chili contest entries, so let's see what you've got! You can buy tickets to support our youth as they raise funds for the weeklong UNITE Summer Camp on Sunday morning. It's $10 per person with a max of $30 per family. Pastor Brian feels pretty confident he's going to win the chili contest, so bring a pot of your own to see who comes out on top.
Every Wednesday evening until Easter, we will gather to share soup and bread in the basement before we head into the sanctuary for a short Vespers service. The food will be ready at 5:30pm and Vespers will begin around 6:15pm. If you'd like to bring a soup to share, we would be so grateful. We need 4-5 crockpots each Wednesday, along with some bread to share. Just email us back if you'd like to help.
The hosts are set and you can sign up for a Dinners Together this Sunday! This is such a great way to meet new people, reconnect with old friends, and chat with those friendly faces you see, but don't know on Sunday mornings. Find a dinner that works for your schedule this week and put your name on the list. Generally, each group will meet three times between March and Memorial Day.
