Greetings from The Downtown Church! This is a bi-weekly email with information about events, updates, and other fun things from the leadership of the church.

On Tuesday, most of the staff got together for the day at Pastor Lori's house to reflect on the year behind us, plan for the year ahead, and dream about what The Downtown Church is being called to become in the years ahead. I've worked with a few churches in my career so far, and been involved in many organizations and boards, and I can say, without a doubt, that our we are blessed. This team is just that—a team!

We plan and dream in collaboration. We support each other at work and in our personal lives. There is a wealth of humility, flexibility, selflessness, and kindness that just oozes out in the work and care they show to our church and community.

I consider myself lucky to do this work with them. And they continue to show me so much grace as I learn and grow into my own leadership capabilities. It's a slow road, but I'm learning everyday, thanks to this TEAM around me.

When you see the staff around, thank them for me, because this church takes all of us pulling together. It's not one person, it's a group project.

See you soon,
Brian

It's almost time for our annual All-Church Picnic! In what can only be described as one of the most fun days of the year, the picnic is a chance to chat, chew, and throw water balloons. We just need to know how many people to prepare for. Fill out this quick form to RSVP for the fun. We'll make the hot dogs and hamburgers, we'll ask you to bring the drinks, sides, and desserts.
  • If you are under 45, bring chips and drinks
  • If you are between 45-70, bring a side dish
  • If you are over 70, bring a dessert
You'll also have the chance to meet our new Children's Ministry director, Nicole Brookman, and her family. It's gonna be a blast!
The Southwest District of the Missouri Annual Conference (our district!) is sponsoring a FREE Night at the Ballpark on Friday, August 14. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:05pm and they are inviting all the churches in the district to attend, free of charge. We just need to know how many tickets to reserve for The Downtown Church. Let us know on this super short form as soon as you can. Hope to see you at the game!
It's a year of celebrations for 100 years of Route 66, and Downtown Springfield is the birthplace of the Mother Road! The annual festival is on August 7-8, right in our neighborhood. Come on down to see the old cars, the art, the music, and the history. It will be a busy weekend in Springfield, so keep up with the event at their official Facebook page to find out more.
