Greetings from The Downtown Church! This is a bi-weekly email with information about events, updates, and other fun things from the leadership of the church.

It's been a busy summer around these parts. I hope you have had a full summer, filled with sun and fun, but I also hope you had a chance to relax and refresh, because time doesn't stop or slow down. It seems the days only go faster!

I hesitate to even say the 'S' word, but school starts in less than a month! I know...I'm sorry. But it's true. That doesn't mean the fun of summer is over. There is still so much to do with your friends and family, and us too! There's live music, food, water balloons, bowling, and more. So make plans with us. Lean in to community. And have a little fun too.

Join us out front of the church for live music from the Layton Hollow Gals at our August First Friday Art Walk Party. Come on out to our annual All-Church Picnic at Phelps Grove Park. Try to win the water balloon toss. DO NOT throw the extra water balloons at me! Get together with friends from church for the Back-to-School Bowling event for families and youth on August 17.

Don't let the last weeks of summer pass without scheduling a little fun, because the routine and structure of the school year is almost here.

See you Sunday,
Brian
It's almost time for our annual All Church Picnic. We'll gather at the Phelps Gove Park pavilion on Sunday, August 3 around 4:30pm. Hamburgers and hotdogs will be ready just after 5pm. The church will provide the main courses, condiments, plates, cups, and utensils, but we need you to bring the rest. If you are under 45, bring a drink and a bag of chips. If you are between 45-70, bring a delicious side dish. And if you are over 70, bring a delectable dessert. You can RSVP right here! We'll also have the highly competitive water balloon toss, so start practicing at home.
Our August 1 First Friday Art Walk Party will be hot, but the music will be even hotter. We welcome the Layton Hollow Gals (featuring our very own Melinda Mullins) playing the songs of Ozarks legend, Johnny Mullins. There will be fun crafts for kids, popcorn and lemonade, and maybe even a snow cone machine! It's all FREE from 6-8pm on Friday, August 1st, in the heart of Downtown Springfield.
It's almost time for our fall season of Dinners Together. We need several more hosts willing to open their home to share a meal with others from The Downtown Church. You can let us know right here if you would like to host. If you have no clue what this is, Dinners Together is a chance to share a meal and some good conversation with the people you see on Sunday mornings. No agenda. No Bible study. Just a meal and an evening getting to know new people.
