The warm, lazy days of summer are here. Vacations. Pool days. Mosquito bites. Naps in the air conditioning. All time-honored traditions of summer break. Have you given yourself permission to slow down yet? In a world racing to get ahead, sometimes the way to move forward is to sit back. Take it all in. Finding God—and ourselves—isn't a sprint. It's not necessarily a marathon either. I would argue it looks more like sitting on the front porch with a popsicle in your hand, and the only race is to finish the sugary goodness before it melts into your fingers.
Now, I'm no expert at slowing down. Far from it. But I just got back from vacation, so my recency bias is showing. And I'm excited to learn from our current sermon series—Slower Living—about the benefits of slowing down regularly. Soaking up the days and enjoying a less hurried pace with life and faith. I invite you to do the same.
Carve out some time this week or this month. Go to the pool. Go to the creek. Go on a vacation. Go on a staycation. Relax fast and sip slow. Relish in the rest of the sabbath. You just might find God there. I guarantee it.
See you Sunday, Brian
