As I sit here in my office listening to the rain and distant thunder starting up again, I'm wondering just how many storms and deluges this old building has seen in her nearly 125 years on this corner. I mean...just last Sunday, many of us took refuge in the basement during a tornado warning! The bricks and mortar, domes and tower have been a strong shelter for almost half of our country's history.
This building has seen a lot. She's got some wrinkles and water stains, but she's standing strong thanks to your generosity. We are still working on decades of deferred maintenance to bring her up to snuff, but we are making great progress thanks to your gifts of time, talent, treasure. On behalf of the board and the congregation, I just want to say an extra special thanks to our own Brent Bossi who has guided our efforts over the last few years (and years before that as the board chair).
In the last several months alone, he has worked tirelessly to manage the installation of a new roof over the east wing, the removal of an old and rusting fire escape, air conditioning in our youth room, and a new sump pump system to keep water out of our lowest level. He has other projects lined up, but we are well on our way to closing the door on deferred maintenance and just working on routine maintenance.
So the next time you see Brent, give him a big thank you! We couldn't do it without him.
See you Sunday, Brian
