In our sanctuary is a huge, faded painting of the Last Supper, reminiscent of the work of Leonardo da Vinci. Every time I prepare to offer the sacrament of Holy Communion, I glance at the painting and think of the events of that night so long ago. I remember that at the table are the disciples with clean feet because Jesus had just knelt before them and washed away the dirt of Jerusalem. I remember the women who were in the kitchen, but who I am sure set the table, provided the food, and baked the bread.

The thought that always enters my mind is that this is before. Before the crucifixion. This is before the disciples “got it” and understood that all Jesus had been telling them was true. This was before Judas sold out for silver and Peter denied knowing Jesus. This is before they scatter and hide behind locked doors. This is before they know there is a resurrection. And this is when, knowing what was before him, Jesus offered the bread and the cup as his body and blood to that hodgepodge of men and said, “Do this and remember me.”

This Sunday is my favorite day of the Christian calendar, the celebration of Easter! We will gather for breakfast, watch children explore the church hunting for eggs, sing and worship with joy the resurrected Christ. And we will celebrate the sacrament of Holy Communion at the table of Jesus Christ where all are welcome. All. The rich and poor, young and old, believer and nonbeliever. All. It is here at the table where Christ and the community intersect. Please join us and invite someone who needs to know that they, too, are welcomed and loved at the table.

See you Sunday,
Lori

This Sunday, we celebrate the joy of the resurrection we remember at Easter! It's going to be a fun morning with lots going on. Breakfast starts at 9am. At 9:45am, kids of all ages can go on an Easter Egg Hunt in the building. And at 10:30am, we will celebrate together with Easter worship. We can't wait to see all your smiling faces and Easter outfits!
Our Good Friday Tenebrae service will begin at 7pm in the sanctuary. This unique service recounts the events of the Passion through songs and scripture as the room gets darker and darker until we leave in silence and expectation of joy on Easter morning. Make plans to join us for this meaningful experience.

Once a month or so, a group of wise men get together for breakfast and conversation. The next meetup is this Tuesday at 8am at the Steak n' Shake on Glenstone. Many of us are retired, but you don't have to be to join! Come on out and hear from Brent Bossi about his journey into ministry.
