Greetings from The Downtown Church! This is a bi-weekly email with information about events, updates, and other fun things from the leadership of the church.

This past Sunday, we celebrated as 15 of our youth completed Confirmation and were warmly received as full members of The Downtown Church! I can say, without a doubt, it was the most chaotic service I can remember. And that's saying something because our normal Christmas Eve service features a no-rehearsal children's pageant. If you missed the fun, here's a Facebook post that features one of the highlights of the morning.

It may be cliché to say that over nine weeks of Sunday mornings with these youth, I learned more than they did, but it's true. I learned a lot about how to lead and teach in a small group setting, which is not necessarily my strength. I learned that my pop culture references flew over their heads in every instance. I learned that teen boys cannot be given pens that you have to click to write with. Because they just keep clicking them. Forever.

More than these things, though, I was reminded just how bright our future is. These kids—I mean young adults—showed dedication, curiosity, compassion, and just the right amount of silliness. They asked good questions about faith and shared deep thoughts about what it means to live their own spirituality.

I know the news cycle can be depressing at times. So here's my prescription—shut off the TV and interact with some young people. It will do two things: remind you how fast the years go by and give you hope for the future.

See you soon,
Brian
It's that time of year—the Sunday when we get this ol' gal gussied up for the holiday season! Make plans to stay after worship on November 23 as we clean up all the leaves outside, decorate for the Christmas season, and do some cleaning. We'll share some delicious chili and snacks for lunch then get to work. Please email us back if you plan to help, or sign up in your bulletin on Sunday.
We are in need of a few more people on our Sunday Morning Coffee & Conversation Team! Are you looking for a place to volunteer and serve once or twice a month? This is the perfect spot for you extroverts or coffee lovers or donut lovers or hospitality pros. This team makes sure our coffee pots are stocked, the donuts and bagels are at least presentable, and the people who are mingling are seen and greeted like the wonderful people they are. Email us back and let us know if you want to help!
We are planning to order new shirts in January, but we thought it would be good for you to let us know what size and style you are wanting. We aren't promising anything, but if we have good data, it's easier to make an accurate order. So here's what you do: click on this link and fill out the form to let us know. Yes, it's that simple! The t-shirts have usually cost about $10, so that will be the starting point.
