Greetings from The Downtown Church! This is a bi-weekly email with information about events, updates, and other fun things from the leadership of the church.

I got a call a week ago from Jamie Trussell, the Executive Director of Crosslines. They were on the last day of an important matching campaign and they were hoping to maximize the gift. She asked if we could help out at all. Fortunately, I mentioned to Keith Owens, just a few days earlier, that we needed to send our annual gift to Crosslines. Well, God's timing worked out once again, and I was lucky enough to be able to bless Crosslines, on behalf of you all, with a check for $9,500! And because of the matching campaign, it meant over $14,000 for Crosslines.

As our church has grown over the years—and our budget as well—one practice we've instituted was always increasing our mission dollars when we increased our operating budget. This Sunday we are kicking off our annual generosity series. We have been so blessed by the generosity of this church over the years, and not only with financial contributions, but with service, leadership, and mission work. Over the next few weeks, we are going to highlight some of your stories about how you are generous with your lives.

And when all the pledge cards have been collected and we celebrate with Bluegrass Sunday on October 18, I hope, once again, to be able to pledge more money to Crosslines—and many others—in the coming year.

See you Sunday,
Brian

We were bummed that the weather never cooperated for our annual Church Picnic, but we've got some other news to brighten your day. We are planning another Pizza Night at Millsap Farms on Saturday, October 17, from 5:30-7pm! Make plans to join us for pizza, live music, a farm tour, and a night of fun with your church family. RSVP at this short form or let us know on the bulletin on Sundays.
We'll have a mini-First Friday Art Walk Party on October 2nd. It's going to be getting dark earlier, so this party will go from about 5:45pm until it's too dark to play jazz. Consider this your perfect opportunity to kick-off the rest of your Art Walk adventure. After you fill up on jazz, go eat dinner, get some dessert, and walk around downtown for a perfect fall evening.
Do you have some questions about our church? Maybe what membership looks like? How'd we get here? Where are we going? Why is Pastor Brian the way he is? You can get those questions, and many more, answered at our Next Steps Class this Sunday, October 4. You can RSVP right here. We will also provide food and childcare if needed.
God's presence is with us. But at times, it can be hard to see, hear, or feel it in the chaos of the world. Join Erin Owens on Sunday nights starting this week to explore how God may be speaking to us. We will meet at 5:30pm in the prayer room on the top floor this Sunday, October 4. Email us back if you want to explore ways to tune into God's voice.
The United Women of Faith are hosting a special presentation on Monday, October 12, at 1:30pm. This is open to all, men and women, with great information to help protect ourselves. Former KY3 Consumer Reporter, Ashley Reynolds, will provide professional advice on how to avoid scams and what to do to stay safe online. There will be cookies and iced tea, because this is a UWF event after all!
