Greetings from The Downtown Church! This is a bi-weekly email with information about events, updates, and other fun things from the leadership of the church.

Every year around this time, we spend a few weeks talking about generosity. Our theme this year is Building Bonfires. The idea is that all the sticks, logs, and kindling we bring to this bonfire—our money, talents, and time—come together to make something far greater than the sum of its parts.

This bonfire we are building together is built for everyone. Not just one person or a few people, but anyone and everyone. And the reason we want to build one so big is because bonfires are meant to be shared. The heat for staying warm or cooking. The light to be able to see. And a place to be welcomed to, invited to sit and relax and belong.

During this season of generosity, we ask you to carefully consider the ways you contribute here at The Downtown Church. We've got big ideas and big plans for next year: a Spiritual Recovery class, building improvements, and our youth group has doubled and those kids eat more! With our collective gifts, the staff and board prepare a smart, reasonable, and realistic operating budget for next year. This Sunday, I invite you to bring your pledge forward as we celebrate the ways God has been faithful as we mirror that generosity. If you didn't get a card in the mail, we'll have extras on Sunday, or you can fill out an online pledge right here. Together, our sticks and logs, dried leaves and pine needles, will build a bonfire bright enough, warm enough, and cozy enough for all to share.

Somehow still waiting on the fall weather,
Brian
We're excited for one of our favorite Sundays of the year—Bluegrass Sunday! There'll be mandolins, guitars, and a banjo (oh my!). We'll sing some great songs and hymns, celebrate God's generosity and faithfulness, and look forwards to the good things to come in 2026. Wear flannel if you like, grab your set of spoons, and bring your pledge card as we do some pickin' and grinnin' together this Sunday.
On Saturday, November 1, we will host a Family Bonfire at Rutledge-Wilson Farm Park. Similar to our Family Fun Night in the summer, this Family Bonfire is for families with kids ages 5-11. There will be hot dogs, s'mores, some campfire songs, and maybe even some storytellers. Let us know if you can make it and RSVP right here. We know it's Halloween the night before, but you also get an extra hour of sleep when you go to bed on November 1, so let's get crazy!
We are FINALLY getting around to updating our Church Directory! Some of you have added kids to your family. Some of you have switched addresses or phone numbers. Whatever the case may be, we are sure there is something different about you now than four years ago. We can guarantee you probably at least have more wrinkles. So we want to update those emails, birthdays, addresses, and pictures. Won't you help us? Fill out this form and give us the deets!
