Greetings from The Downtown Church! This is a bi-weekly email with information about events, updates, and other fun things from the leadership of the church.

I know it seems like summer is sticking around forever, but I promise fall is on the way. My house is all decorated for fall and Halloween. We bought apple cider last weekend at Cider Days. Surely, fall will get here eventually! And with the cooler days and evenings on the horizon (fingers crossed), we are busy planning and preparing for some fun activities.

On Saturday, October 11, the entire church is invited to our very own Pizza Night at Millsap Farm. We've done this several times in the past, and it's always a great time, so please join us. You can RSVP here or down below.

Then on Saturday, November 1, we will host a Family Bonfire at Rutledge-Wilson Farm Park. Similar to our Family Fun Night in the summer, this Family Bonfire is for families with kids ages 5-11. There will be hot dogs, s'mores, some campfire songs, and maybe even some storytellers.

Our youth have a packed Fall too! They're hosting Bob Ross Painting Night this Sunday from 5-7pm. Then they have a lock-in in October and a fall retreat in November. Feel free to email us for more info.

I can't wait for the weather to catchup to the season, because fall is the best! I hope you get a chance to enjoy it with your church family soon.

Happy fall, ya'll,
Brian
Make plans to eat all the pizza your stomach can handle! The Downtown Church will have our very own Pizza Night at Millsap Farm on October 11 from 5-7:30pm. There is a lot of space for kids to roam and play, some live music, and the best company you can find anywhere. Come on out for some fall fun and be sure to RSVP. We need to know how much pizza to make. Bring your own drinks and a lawn chair.
Our friends at McGregor Elementary are in search of chaperones to help out on their class field trips. All volunteers would need to be approved by SPS. Below are the dates and places. If you can help, please email us back and we will get you all the info.
  • October 2 – 3rd/4th Grade Field Trip to Drury Theatre
  • October 8 – 5th Grade Field to Millsap Farm
  • October 9 – 3rd Grade Field Trip to the Nature Center
  • October 10 – 2nd Grade Field Trip to the Zoo
  • October 16 – Kindergarten Field Trip to Rutledge-Wilson
Paul and Jennifer Baker are excited to start a new class based on the book Steps by John Ortberg. This book uses many of the principles and steps in recovery communities and applies them to our spiritual lives. This class begins on Sunday, October 12, at 9am. It will meet at our old parsonage, the offices of Good Dads—that big pink house out in front of the church. There will be some light snacks and a lot of discussion. Anyone is welcome to join!
