Greetings from The Downtown Church! This is a bi-weekly email with information about events, updates, and other fun things from the leadership of the church.

I just celebrated my 41st birthday on Tuesday. I ate dinner with my family at Lambert's Cafe and I reflected on how lucky I am. I feel so blessed to be surrounded by my awesome wife and kids, close to my parents, and in the same city with so many of my longtime friends.

I also consider myself pretty lucky to get to go to work everyday at The Downtown Church and help lead some amazing people as we try to live out our faith together in these crazy times.

We just finished a series on our Core Values and I was reminded even more of how important it is, in this ever-changing world, to stick close to our values and God-given vision. These things will help us stay steady when the seas are rough and provide light when things get dark. I hope you also feel renewed in your faith and in the direction of this church, because we need everyone to help do the work. You have a role to play here and in this world. And I'm excited we get to do the work together.

So I'm looking forward to celebrating my 42nd birthday next year, and how many fun things will be on the journey there. Things like First Friday Art Walks, Confirmation, Advent, Bob Ross, and maybe even some more throwed rolls.

See you Sunday (or tomorrow night),
Brian
Our next First Friday Art Walk Party is tomorrow, from 6-8pm. We welcome the Springfield Community Jazz Ensemble to our front yard for some killer tunes. We'll have lemonade, popsicles, and be popping fresh popcorn. And it's all FREE! We will also be making some community pet art with Paint In The Park and collecting dog food for unsheltered pet owners at Veterans Coming Home. Maybe we will call it our First Fur-st Friday Art Walk Party!
We'll have two Confirmation classes this year. One for any youth, 6th grade and up, who haven't gone through a Confirmation class yet, and one for adults. Any adult. You don't have to be a parent of a confirmand. Get a refresher, or maybe a primer, for the foundational beliefs, sacraments, and church history of the United Methodist denomination. Sign up with this quick online form.
The Downtown Youth are holding a Bob Ross Painting Night fundraiser on Sunday, September 28, from 5-7pm. The cost is $15/person and includes a light meal, paint supplies, and plenty of happy accidents. All the proceeds from this event will go to our youth summer camp experience at UNITE. Last year, with your support, all our students were able to attend free of charge!
