Greetings from The Downtown Church! This is a bi-weekly email with information about events, updates, and other fun things from the leadership of the church.

I love the theater. From the time we arrived in Springfield in 1984, Ben and I have enjoyed many, many productions at the Springfield Little Theatre. And I have always harbored a desire to be a part of a musical. Dulcinea in The Man of La Mancha, Golda in Fiddler on the Roof, maybe even Baroness Schraeder in The Sound of Music are on my list of possibilities, although age and memory are not on my side.

So when the boiler at The Downtown Church went out one freezing February several years ago, our friends at SLT let us move worship to their stage. I was thrilled! Their kindness and generosity began a tradition that was interrupted by COVID, but resumes this Sunday. SLT is allowing us on the stage of their wonderful production of In the Heights, and several of their cast members will be joining us.

This is a great opportunity for you to invite your friends and family to experience The Downtown Church. Our series on REconstruction is all about building back faith in God through Jesus Christ that for a host of reasons have caused people to walk away. Who do you know who might not be ready for worship in a church, but would enjoy a service where we are truly living our vision to be a place where Christ and the community intersect? Is there someone in your life who needs to meet Christ followers who really are loving God and loving neighbor, all our neighbors? Invite them to join us in the barrio of Washington Heights, New York where this abuela (grandmother) will try not to burst into song!

See you Sunday,
Lori

Chili + Bingo = CHILINGO. This fun, all-ages event on Sunday, February 18, will feature a chili cook-off and Bingo with prizes to support our youth group as they raise money for a great week on the campus of Central Methodist University this summer. You can sign up online to join the fun and enter a pot of chili into the contest. Best of luck!
Ash Wednesday is less than two weeks away. Doesn't that seem crazy? We will mark the beginning of the season of Lent, our journey towards Easter morning, with two opportunities on Wednesday, February 14. There will be a come-and-go, self-lead meditation from 12-1pm and then a structured Ash Wednesday experience that night at 6:30pm.

It's a little chilly now, but it's almost time for the spring season of Dinners Together. Hooray! Before they start though, we need some willing hosts to invite people in for a lovely meal and conversation. Let us know if you'd like to be one of those hosts by emailing us back. These are a great way to get to know the faces you see on Sundays.
